UPDATE: San Angelo PD says alcohol is believed to be a factor in fatal head-on crash

Jermaine Landor, 33, died from his injuries at a local hospital.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — UPDATE (12:20 p.m. Aug. 4): The San Angelo Police Department said Wednesday alcohol is believed to be a factor in the fatal head-on collision Tuesday evening near San Angelo's Kirby Park.

According to a release from the SAPD, all four occupants of the Chevrolet Tahoe, two adults and two children (ages 8 and 11), were taken by ambulance to Shannon Medical Center. The adults in the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts, the children were secured.

A passenger in the front of the Tahoe, Jermaine Landor, 33, died from his injuries at the hospital. The other three in the Tahoe had non-incapacitating injuries, according to the release.

All three occupants of the Chevrolet pickup truck were treated for non-incapacitating injuries. One of the three in the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt.

Witnesses told police the driver of the Tahoe was traveling east on Edmund when the vehicle swerved into the westbound lane, hitting the pickup truck head-on.

San Angelo Police are still investigating the crash.

ORIGINAL STORY: One person died in a head-on collision Tuesday evening in the 1400 block of Edmund Boulevard in front of Kirby Park.

The San Angelo Police Department sent an alert at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday asking citizens to avoid the area near the park from Wilson Street to North Bryant Boulevard because of a motor vehicle crash.

SAPD Sgt. Cade Solsbery said officers were dispatched to the location for a head-on collision that occurred between a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The Tahoe was occupied by four people (two adults, two children), the pickup was carrying three people (all adults). All seven were taken by ambulance to Shannon Medical Center for evaluation of their injuries, Solsbery said.

"We do have at this point, one confirmed fatality out of the black Tahoe," he said. "Until the investigation has progressed further and we're able to verify that there has been next-of-kin notified, I don't have any information on that individual's name at this time."

Solsbery said preliminary investigation shows the pickup truck was westbound on Edmund and the Tahoe was eastbound.

"The black Tahoe crossed over the center yellow stripes into oncoming traffic and collided with the pickup head-on," he said. "At this point, we don't have any reason to believe that there will be any other fatalities out of this collision, but everybody is still currently being evaluated at Shannon."

Solsbery said the person who died in the crash was one of the adults in the Tahoe.

More information will be released by the SAPD as soon as possible.
