The Friends of Fairmount Cemetery board of directors is asking for volunteers to help place flags on the graves of the more than 1,400 veterans interred in the cemetery. The flags will be placed in honor of Veterans Day.

Veterans buried in Fairmount represent service in the Army of the Republic of Texas; buffalo soldiers; the Korean conflict; Vietnam; the Texas Revolution; Iraq; Afghanistan; World War I and II; the Texas Army National Guard; the Battle of San Jacinto; and the Civil War.

A brief orientation will be held for interested volunteers at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Fairmount gazebo, 1120 W. Avenue N.

A ceremony honoring veterans will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in Fairmount with guest speaker U.S. Air Force Col. Andres Nazario, 17th Wing Commander, Goodfellow Air Force Base.
