GRAPE CREEK, TX — "I answer more of the medical calls. When there are fires I am there with several other crew members not only for the homeowners but for our firefighters.
We come back home thinking could we have done something different? Could we have done something quicker? The answer is no, I mean we've done it all, we try our best but sometimes it's just not savable. It's just too far gone.
Just sitting around one night thinking about all the different things of what else can we do?
We had worked a fire one day and these guys..they lost everything. They lost their home, they lost everything and it just kind of hit me, what if that was my family?
It's not easy just to run and buy clothes and shoes and start over. It really did hit hard after that one that wasn't too far from my own house.
I have anywhere from newborn, little baby boys, to toddlers. It goes all the way up to bigger little boys. Undies, socks, pajamas. And then guys go back over here and goes all the way up to men’s sizes. And the same with the girls we start with the newborn all the way up to adult’s sizes.
Sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels, mattress covers, boxes of pillows. You name it, if it has to do with bedding it's in here.
I have been helping the community, I take in the donations, get them prepared, washed, sorted, ready to go. My biggest thing right now that I need help with is extra space. Y'all have seen my laundry room, you've seen my spare room, I'm out. I'm in desperate need of a sea container, a portable storage building, something here, but I'm not ready to give up. I'm ready to continue the growth with this organization. If it's a desperate situation, I'm there." Amanda McPeak, creator of the Firefighters Closet, said.
