SAN ANGELO — A San Angelo man escaped injury Thursday morning, after a coughing fit caused him to drive his vehicle into the Concho River.
Sgt. Rick Tinsley, San Angelo Police Department, said the no other drivers or vehicles were involved in the incident.
Tinsley said the man was on his way to work at approximately 6 a.m., traveling eastbound on Rio Concho Drive. The man started to cough and pulled the steering wheel to the left, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into the Concho.
The driver was able to get himself out of the vehicle and did not have injuries, Tinsley said.
"He was able to call us and we had to call Home Motors to recover the vehicle out of the river."
