Did Grover curse on 'Sesame Street?' Twitter users fiercely debate

It's the new 'what color is this dress' or 'Yanny vs. Laurel.' Did a beloved Sesame Street character drop an expletive?

Depending on who you ask, the most iconic block in America may have just gotten a little NSFW.

People are divided over a video clip from a Nov. 24 episode of "Sesame Street" that some think sounds like Grover is telling his friend something is "a (expletive) excellent idea." (Others argue he's actually just saying "that sounds like an excellent idea.")

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for "Sesame Street" for comment.

Many Twitter users were quick to compare the video to other viral debates like "Laurel versus Yanny," which had the internet divided over an audio clip, or "the dress," which was either gold and white or black and blue (we still can't decide which).

"I can't believe the new 'Yanny or Laurel?' is 'did grover just drop the f-bomb on Sesame Street?" one user remarked. "2018 is cutting it close to the wire with this one."

Others joked that it wasn't totally out of character for Grover to curse.

"If you know @Grover, it makes sense that he dropped the F bomb here," one user tweeted.

"You know what, after all these years if Grover wants to drop an F-bomb then he's damn well earned the right," another wrote.

"Grover coming apart and dropping the f-bomb is the perfect punctuation mark at the end of the 2018 sentence," wrote another Twitter user. "We hear you #Grover. We're all just hanging on by a thread."

Some imagined what a more grown-up version of "Sesame Street" might look like. ("Avenue Q," anyone?)

"furiously typing out screenplay for a gritty, hard-R-rated reboot of 'Super Grover,' " one user wrote.

And some just wanted the debate to end .

"Y'all ain't gone soil my Grover on this blessed day," one person tweeted. "Nuh un."

"My dude Grover is innocent and a class act," another user said.

"I hear Grover swearing. I don't believe Grover actually swore. I'm confused and will need some time with my thoughts as I try to figure this out," another wrote.

Another simply put: "Leave @Grover alone!"

Check out the clip below, but fair warning: it may not be such an "excellent idea" to play this one out loud.
