MILES, Texas — There is a new kid-friendly attraction in Miles, Texas, but parents will have to wait until Saturday for the park to open.

"There were areas that they could go too they were really not as safe for them as we felt like they needed to be,” Katrina Torres, President, Miles Empowerment Association, said.

Torres said, that in Miles there is a lack of activities for the children in the area, and it’s her personal goal to get kids outside and not cooped up in the house.

For the park to even be up in the first place, the group first had to form an official non-profit.

After Miles Empowerment Association was form the group was able to apply for grants which totaled in $110,000.

And, some of the big players were from Texas.
"San Angelo Health Foundation was able to help us out with $75,000. The Dodge Jones Foundation was able to help up out $4,000 and H.E.B came on board with a $10,000 grant,” Torres said.

The grant money helped other perks to be added, like padded artificial grass, which is easier for the kids to play on.

"It is an artificial grass that is very, very low maintenance no wood chips, gravel or anything like that. That is going to be used in the park. You know the first thing that kids do is they get there, and they chuck those shoes and they are just out there having a blast,” Torres, said.

There will be an official grand opening of the park on Saturday, food and drinks will be provided.
