KIMBLE COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE: The suspect found dead in his vehicle after firing shots at DPS and Kimble County deputies Wednesday was a suspect in a capital murder case in El Paso.

According to a statement from the City of El Paso, the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons is continuing the investigation into Wednesday morning’s homicide at a 7-11 in the 2100 block of Zaragosa in El Paso.

Pebble Hills Regional Command officers responded to the 7-11 store on a welfare check of the clerk. When officers entered the store, they found the clerk dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The investigation revealed that Arbin Iglesias. 25, was the victim of a capital murder during a robbery, and his truck was stolen by the offender.

At the onset of the investigation, detectives believed with reasonable certainty that the offender had fled El Paso County and was traveling east. A nationwide lookout was broadcast with the offender’s description and the victim’s vehicle information.

The stolen vehicle was a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, gray in color. It has been confirmed through the Texas Department of Public Safety that the stolen vehicle was located in Junction and the offender is dead. Release of the offender’s identity is pending further investigation.

One person has died after firing shots at a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and Kimble County Sheriff's Office deputies after a traffic stop Wednesday morning.

A release from the department said that at approximately 10:40 a.m., Wednesday, a Texas Department Public Safety trooper initiated a traffic stop involving a grey Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck on Interstate 10 in Kimble County.

As the trooper approached the vehicle, the driver started firing gun shots at the trooper. As the trooper returned fire, the suspect fled in their vehicle.

Kimble County Sheriff's Office deputies aided in the pursuit after the suspect also fired rounds in their direction.

The pursuit ended a short time later when the driver of the vehicle was found dead from a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
