TEXAS, USA — According to the latest report from the Associated Press, Republican candidate August Pfluger has won the Republican primary for TX-11 House seat. The seat is currently held by Mike Conaway, who has decided to retire.
At last report, with 99% of precincts reporting, Pfluger held 52.15% of the vote with Brandon Batch in second place at 15.16%.
Conaway announced in July 2019, he would not run for another term to represent District 11, which includes San Angelo, Midland, Odessa, Llano, Junction and Brady, among others.
In a statement, Conaway who has served the congressional district since 2005, said “While serving in Congress, I have asked Suzanne and our family to make innumerable sacrifices. She and they have willingly made those necessary sacrifices, but they were still sacrifices. The time has come for me to put Suzanne, my children, and my grandchildren first.“
The longtime Republican Congressman has served as the chairman of the House Ethics committee and as a ranking member of the Agriculture committee.
Although the filing period wasn’t near, Conaway wanted to give anyone interested in filing to replace him ample time.
Pfluger will face Democrat Jon Mark Hogg, who ran unopposed, in the general election.
