Tom Green County has a new sheriff - J. Nick Hanna

Retired Texas Ranger Nick Hanna won Tuesday's election with a reported 63.38% of the vote, compared to opponent Keith Muncey's 36.62%.

TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — The results are in and from the unofficial report, retired Texas Ranger J. Nick Hanna, will be the new Tom Green County Sheriff, replacing current Sheriff David Jones.

Hanna is currently the TGCSO chief deputy. His opponent in the race, Keith Muncey, has served the department for almost two decades.

At his election watch party Tuesday evening, Hanna said, "We're excited about the opportunity to work with Tom Green County Sheriff's Office. We're going to be aggressive in recruiting good officers. We're going to continue to have proactive patrols. Our Crime Investigation Division is going to go forward. We're looking at our forensic capabilities of enhancing those."

As of 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, Hanna had 8,924 votes (63.38%) to Muncey's 5,156 (36.62%).

"I can't express how humbling it is for those folks who have supported us during this campaign. It has been quite the challenge and it has drawn our family together. We're glad to serve and we feel that we are called by the lord and he has called us to work. We are excited to take on the challenge and we're refreshed, energized and we're looking forward to it." Hanna said.

It's Hanna's hope to unite the sheriff's office and wants to focus on being committed to serving the public.

He said commitment, focus and a common goal will be his first initiative.
