Prevent a mosquito haven at your home

"We can kill what is landing in your area to a certain point," said Galindo. "But away from your house next door, if they're not doing anything then it can it be very challenging."

ABILENE, TX — According to a new list, released by Orkin, a pest management company, mosquitos are a problem in the Concho Valley.

For the first time ever San Angelo made it to their list with the biggest mosquito presence in the U.S.

Mother nature has been hitting West Texas hard with severe storms leaving more than many inches of rain behind.

"Mosquitos especially this time of year because of the standing water that the rain has produced,” said Homer Galindo, owner of Sure Shot pest management.

These weather conditions give life to the infamous bloodsuckers…but you can prevent a mosquito haven with a few simple steps.

"Keep your lawn manicured, keep your shrubs manicured, keep it nice and tight. Especially the water,” said Galindo. “This is too close to your patio so it creates some standing water."

Another place to check for still water are your bird baths. Homer says keep a close eye on it, especially during calm weather days because larva are more likely to thrive.

"When the water is moving its just harder to multiply,” said Galindo.

Experts say it’s a neighborhood effort when it comes to getting rid and preventing this nuisance.

"We can kill what is landing in your area to a certain point,” said Galindo. “But away from your house next door, if they're not doing anything then it can it be very challenging."
