San Angelo teacher passes out after CrossFit workout

A man unexpectedly fainted after a CrossFit workout and members of the class he was attending came to his aid.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A CrossFit class came to a fellow classmate's aid recently, after the man passed out during the session.

“It was a terrible situation but handled beautifully,” Jeromy Speciale, owner, San Angelo CrossFit.

Speciale has been the owner of San Angelo CrossFit for almost seven years and has never had an incident like the one that occurred this week at his gym.

“One of our clients had just finished the 4:15 p.m. class and was out visiting with other clients, and then all of a sudden, he stopped talking and became lifeless at the moment,“ Speciale said.

Luckily, a doctor and several nurses were in the class and ran to his aid. Speciale said that he has prepared his staff for unexpected scares, making sure they know how to use the automated external defibrillator, better known as A.E.D., in the case of a medical emergency.

“Anybody that owns a gym or a restaurant or anything like that the best thing you can do is to have a A.E.D at your facility," Speciale said.

Speciale is grateful for the fast-thinking teamwork displayed in the emergency.

“It was a team effort, we talk about the San Angelo CrossFit community and how tight nit it is, and that was just a perfect example of the community coming together to help one of their own."
