SAN ANGELO, Texas —
The grind of the typical 9-to-5 might become a thing of the past as more millennials are moving towards being their own boss.
It’s a new trend called solopreneurship and the new wave is even taking over entrepreneurship as well.
Not only do millennials want to be their own boss, they do not want the stress of managing multiple people.
“People my age they are really wanting to do their own thing. They want to work for themselves,” Seth Chomout, San Angelo Studios, said.
Typically, you can find these solopreneurs out at a coffee shop working on their laptops.
The average cost for a cup of coffee is approximately $5, which can add up. Plus, coffee shops can be a bit noisy and could pose a challenge if you are trying to concentrate.
“You end up with constant interpretations lots of background hard to do video conferencing and hard to do in person conversations,” he said.
If you are helping or even launching your own company, having a private conversation in such a public place could also pose a threat to privacy issues.
“Someone starting a new business they don’t want everyone to know about it, so working in a coffee shop is difficult,” Chomout said.
It was for all these reasons that Chomout opened San Angelo Studios to offer a place for solopreneurs to have a workplace.
There are plenty of amenities too, such as a fresh pot of coffee with the creamer of your choice; and for that afternoon happy hour relief - wine, beer and a few options of liquor as well.
If you need a mailing address that’s OK, they have you covered, along with basic office supplies as well.
“Nice copier, printer, all the technology to do video conferencing to do in-person meetings,” he said.
Chomout also said they are not requiring long contract commitments, it’s month-to-month, so anyone can cancel at any time.
