A Bexar County grand jury has returned a second indictment against Genene Jones, who had previously been charged with murder in other infant and child deaths.
The Bexar County Criminal District Attorney announced Wednesday that a jury returned a true bill of indictment for the 1981 murder of a two-year-old girl.
Jones was also indicted last month for the murder of an 11-month-old boy.
According to the DA, in 1984, Jones was ordered to serve concurrent lengthy sentences for the deaths of two other babies. But she is set to be released from prison early, in March of 2018, due to an old mandatory release law.
“So, it’s bittersweet because they still have been cheated out of a life with their precious baby, but they are hoping that she will be held accountable for their child’s passing, and we intend to do that,” DA Nico LaHood said.
The DA called these two indictments timely and just.
