SAN ANGELO, Texas — Two teams from the Angelo State University Bass Anglers Club qualified to compete at the 2020 Yeti FLW College Fishing National Championship next summer. The location of the tournament has not yet been announced.

The two teams made it into the national tournament field by placing in the top 10 at the Yeti FLW College Fishing Southern Conference Tournament on Lake Texoma earlier this month.

ASU team members Steven Armstrong of Brownwood and Lance Culak of Fredericksburg finished sixth out of more than 100 two-person teams. Armstrong and Culak's total catch weight also fell just one ounce short of winning a top-five monetary prize.

ASU’s Jon Garcia of San Angelo and Zachary Kuehler of Seymour finished in 13th place, but qualified for the national tournament because three teams that finished ahead of them had already qualified.

A third team, Will Curlee of Round Rock and Hunter Owens of San Angelo, finished in 17th place.

The ASU Bass Anglers Club is a registered student organization. Any prize money won at tournaments reverts to the club and university, rather than to the individual winners.
