SAN ANGELO, Texas — Two Lake View High School students, Gavin Davis and Lillian Street, have been selected for the Association of Texas Small School Bands All-State Band. Davis plays the tuba and Street plays the string bass.

The pair will perform with the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band Feb. 16 at the 2019 Texas Music Educators Association Convention, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

According to a press release from the San Angelo Independent School District, All‐State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.

Davis and Street are two of 1,780 students chosen through a process that started with more than 72,900 Texas students vying for the honor to perform in one of 15 ensembles (bands, orchestras and choirs).

Auditions were hosted by 33 TMEA regions where individual musicians performed selected music for a panel of judges who ranked each instrument.

From the judges' rankings, a select group of musicians advanced from their region to compete against musicians from other areas in eight TMEA area competitions. The highest‐ranking musicians judged at the TMEA area competitions qualified to perform in a TMEA All-State music group.

The top 2.4 percent of musicians who initially auditioned became All-State musicians. The students will participate in three days of rehearsals, directed by nationally‐recognized conductors during the TMEA clinic/convention. Their performances for the thousands of expected attendees will bring the event to a close.
