Runnels County Sheriff Carl Squyres has confirmed with KIDY/FOX15 that a suspect, Thomas Peiser, 41, has been arrested in a murder investigation of Antonio Hernandez Romo, 58, the afternoon of Sept. 21, 2017.

Peiser was arrested on charges of murder at a home on the corner of Elm and 9th street in Miles. Peiser is currently being held in the Runnels County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

The Runnels County Sheriff's Department along with Miles Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety are also investigating a crime scene on FM Road 2333 in Runnels County, linked to the murder.

On Sept. 21, Runnels County was called about a person in Miles, who stated a man had been shot at Peiser's residence in the 800 block of Thomas Street. Miles Chief of Police Quentin Watkins arrived at the location. Runnels County deputies arrived shortly after.

Peiser was located at the residence and was uncooperative with investigators. Evidence in and around the house proved an altercation took place and "someone was, at the very least, severely injured, however no one else was found at the residence," according to Runnels County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators learned that Peiser had left the residence, traveling north on Thomas Street and returned a short time later.

Runnels County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Miles Volunteer Fire Department to help search for the missing party. Runnels County Deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers also took part in the search.

"At approximately 5:36 p.m. a member of the Miles Fire Department reported finding a body in a field near the intersection of FM 2333 and County Road 392," according to Runnels County Sheriff's Office.

Both crime scenes were secured until Texas Rangers arrived and began processing the locations for evidence. The body was identified as Romo of Miles. The body has been transported to American Forensics in Mesquite, Texas for an autopsy.

The motive and cause of death is under investigation.
