ABILENE, Texas — According to the Abilene Animal Shelter, there will now be an in-house veterinarian on staff.
On Wednesday Rescue the Animals presented the Abilene Animal Shelter with a $20,000 check, to go towards the veterinarian's salary.
According to Animal Services Director Mike Bricker, having a medical professional on hand will help them with their mission of saving animals.
"When you start saving more and more animals, the animals left are the ones who have medical needs. They have kennel cough, upper respiratory infections. We have a lot of animals hit by cars in Abilene that will allow us to assess that situation and fix those animals up." says Bricker.
Bricker says this will also allow them to provide more services such as spay/neuter as well as vaccinations.
