WIC San Angelo and local moms bring awareness to breastfeeding in the Concho Valley

WIC San Angelo placed rocks throughout San Angelo with the message "Breastfeeding Rocks," to bring awareness and encourage mothers to breastfeed.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Throughout San Angelo, rocks with a special message are scattered around the city in honor of breastfeeding awareness month.

“Even if they aren’t breast feeding it’s just showing support to breastfeeding mothers because we have breast feeding mothers all over the place,” Sarah Rook, San Angelo WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, said.

The rocks can be found at hospitals, grocery stores and businesses to remind people that anywhere women are allowed, breastfeeding should be allowed too.

“We want moms to feel comfortable breastfeeding wherever they are, and asking for help because sometimes it can feel lonely,” Rook said.

Breastfeeding moms and WIC San Angelo painted the hashtag #BreastfeedingRocks on the rocks encouraging people in the community to take a picture and share it with the hashtag to express their support.

“Some of them do have the hashtag some of them are the San Angelo breastfeeding collation, Texas breastfeeding collation,” Rook said.
