ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Christian University decided to cancel its home football game scheduled for Oct. 17 against West Texas A&M University.
According to an ACU press release, if the game can't be rescheduled, the school will search for another opponent and fill a later date.
“We regret for our fans that we have to reschedule the game, but this was not unexpected. We knew we might have a few challenges when we decided to play this fall. With some of our student-athletes testing positive for COVID-19, we know it’s in everyone’s best interest. This shows our testing protocols are working as they should, " Dr. Phil Schubert, ACU president, said in the release.
The Oct. 17 game was scheduled to be ACU's homecoming game and its third of the season, the release said.
Additional details regarding homecoming will be announced early next week.
