Dorrel signed a five-year contract upon his arrival to ACU in December 2016 and helped the program make significant progress between his first and second years.

The head coach's first year at the helm was a rebuilding year where the team finished the season with only two wins and nine losses. Dorrel's second year was a season to show the change in the Wildcat program. The team accomplished six wins and finished their winning season in Division I play.

The Wildcats have their first inter-team scrimmage on Saturday, August 24th, where fans are encouraged to come and meet the players after the game. Their first game in the 2019 season will be at North Texas on August 31 which can be seen on TV on ESPN+.
