Health concerns affect Big Country sports

Because of COVID-19 concerns, sports are affected by cancellations and postponing

ABILENE, Texas — The world is in shock and the sports world has taken a hit because of the corona virus. Sports teams in the Big Country are being affected due to cancellations from the NCAA and school districts.

On Wednesday night, Abilene ISD announced the cancellation of athletic for Thursday and Friday. The Abilene ISD baseball tournament hosted by Cooper and Abilene High has been canceled on Thursday and Friday. Saturday games are still to be determined.

The UIL state basketball tournament will be suspended until further notice.

McMurry's Sean Germany was supposed to participate in the NCAA D3 National Indoor Track and Field Championship this weekend in Greensboro. He is now on his way back with McMurry staff to Abilene following the NCAA's cancellation of spring championships.

ACU men's and women's basketball teams will return to Abilene following the Southland conference tournament being cancelled.
