EASTLAND, Texas — Eastland's Anthony Bonilla signed to play football at Tarleton State University on Thursday. Ever since he was a little kid, his dream was to play college football.
"I am beyond excited. Ever since I was a little kid I dreamed of playing at the next level," Bonilla said.
Tarleton State felt right for the senior, he knew it was meant to be. Head coach of the Eastland Mavericks, James Morton, will miss Bonilla on the field but also in the community.
"There is a following in Eastland, everyone knows who Anthony is. Tartleton is also close enough so people from Eastland can go down and see him play," Coach Morton added.
As a coach, Morton is proud of coach young men like Anthony but also to see them succeed after high school. "It really puts things in perspective for you as a coach when you see guys like (Bonilla) have success."
Bonilla had a memorable time playing for Eastland, earning many awards along throughout his four years:
2017 New comer of the Year
2018 First Team All-District WR
2018 First Team All-State S
2018 First Team All-State DB
2019 District MVP
2019 Second Team All-State WR
2019 Honorable Mention All-State DB
Best of luck to Anthony Bonilla on his next chapter at Tarleton State University.
