CHRISTOVAL, Texas — The Christoval girls’ basketball team is nearing the end of their basketball season, but they are still chasing the goal of becoming district champs. The Cougars are 12-13 on the season and are currently second in the district.

Coming off a 48-41 loss to the Ozona Lions, the Cougars are focusing on winning the next six games. Brady Clark, head coach of the girls' basketball team, believes his team can reach the same heights they did when they placed first in the district last year.

"You know we control our own destiny. We win every district game from here on out, we're district champs and that's been our goal. We just have to take it one game at a time. We're looking to go 1-0 and 2-0 each week," Clark said.

This year, the Lady Cougars have a very young team, however, three seniors have been providing leadership throughout the whole season. Before the season ends, senior point forward Michaila Eoff, leaves behind one message to her team.

"We've got four wins and one loss in the district, but I just keep encouraging the girls and telling them that we are going to get the dub for the rest of the season," Eoff said.

The next few games are must-wins for the Lady Cougars for them to hold on to their title.

Senior guard, Kallie Montalvo, reflects on the way her team has been playing throughout the season and what they could improve on over the next six games.

"We have been playing hard and we always fight. This team we have now we never give up; we come into every game and play hard all four quarters. We just need to start settling down and work on getting block-outs," Montalvo said.

The Cougars will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Friday when they travel to McCamey.
