Houston tops Syracuse 62-46, advances to first Elite Eight since 1984

INDIANAPOLIS — The Houston Cougars defeated Syracuse 62-46 in their Sweet 16 matchup of the NCAA Tournament Saturday, advancing to the Elite 8 against Oregon State.

It will be Houston's first appearance in the Elite Eight since 1984 during the Phi Slama Jama era.

Quentin Grimes scored 14 points, and Justin Gotham added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the second-seeded Cougars. The Cougars also got a strong all-around effort from DeJon Jarreau, who flirted with a triple-double and led the defensive effort on Buddy Boeheim. 

Boeheim finished with 12 points after averaging 28 in his past four games for 11th-seeded Syracuse.

The Cougars (27-3) are winners of 10 straight.
