Former Angelo State discus athlete wins event at World University Games

Daisy Osakue wins big in her native country of Italy

NAPOLI, Italy — Former Angelo State discus thrower Daisy Osakue is letting it fly in her home country of Italy. Osakue won the discus event at the World University Games. Osakue, the two-time defending NCAA Division II national champion in the discus, posted a personal-best mark of 61.69 meters. That measures out to 202.5 feet.

Osakue won the discus crown at this year's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships defending her championship from the year before. The multi-skilled athlete is also an All-American in both the shot put and the high jump. 

Osakue will now look toward the World Championships, which will be contested in September in Doha, Qatar. Everyone here in West Texas is cheering for her.

Daisy currently holds the Angelo State, Lone Star Conference, and NCAA Division II records in the women's discus.
