Advance. The only thing on the minds of the United States men's soccer team while fighting out a win in the quarterfinals against Curacao on Lincoln Financial Field Sunday night. The USMNT has seen their offense soar during the CONCACAF Gold Cup scoring 11 goals coming into Sunday night's game. The defending champions only needed one goal to advance to the semifinals, as they grind out the 1-0 victory against Curacao.
The United States' captain Christian Pulisic made separation from his defender to cross an on-target ball to Weston McKennie who head home the lone goal in the 25th minute. America's future was on display as the two 20 year-olds link up for the scoring play to advance the Stars & Stripes.
Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room made an amazing save to start off the game. Room has had a wonderful tournament in net for the 79th ranked team in the world who had over 60% of ball possession in the game. American goalkeeper Zach Steffen wanted to show his stuff in the 83rd minute to keep the slim lead in their favor.
The USMNT will advance to the semifinals of the Gold Cup for the 14th time out of 15 attempts. They will face Jamaica on Wednesday night. The Reggae Boys advanced to semifinals with 1-0 victory. Darren Mattocks' penalty kick in the 75th minute against Panama sealed their ticket to advance on Sunday.
Haiti and Mexico will play on Tuesday at 9pm for a chance to play in the Gold Cup final. USA will go up against Jamaica Wednesday at 8pm. If the Americans win this year's Gold Cup tournament, they will tie Mexico with 7 trophies since the tournament was founded in 1963.
