ABILENE, Texas — McMurry baseball is officially back in the Big Country. The War Hawks hosted St.Thomas for their home opener.

In the first game of the series Friday, the War Hawks fell 6-3 to St.Thomas. Although the team is disappointed about the losing the first game of the series, the War Hawks are excited for the season and that baseball is finally in full swing.

"Obliviously the game didn't turn out the way that we wanted it to but every game we learn off our mistakes and build off of that because it's going to be a long season," junior Javier Rosa added.

Coach John Byington wants his team to take care of the baseball better and improve defensively within the next week to prepare for conference play.

"Very excited. Glad we got the weather through this week to get the series in. Very excited, trying to get as much done as we can and get as prepared as we can. Trying to get some wins in the meantime," coach Byington added.

The War Hawks begin conference play next week and finish their series against St.Thomas tomorrow at 1pm at Walt Driggers Field.

Following this series, McMurry will head to Clarksville, Arkansas to play the University of the Ozarks in a three game series Feb. 21 and 22nd.
