Texas parks to remain open during this time.

The San Angelo State Park will remain open, but there are new rules to promote safety and social distancing.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — With the temporary shutdown of gyms, golf courses and tennis courts, getting fresh air is a challenge.

Even though many other areas of recreation shut down for the time being, the San Angelo State Park is open, but has implemented some new rules for people to follow.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Press Officer Stephanie Garcia explained in an email why the park is still open.

"Our Texas State Park stewards are working diligently to ensure that our visitors and volunteers who visit our sites are safe and still have the best experience they can during these trying time," Garcia said.

In the email, Garcia explains the new rules and some thing the park has closed for the time being.

All public-serving buildings such as park stores, park headquarters and visitor centers are closed to the public in efforts to keep both the public and employees safe based on current health recommendations.

The park is now putting a cap on the number of people allowed into the park. If someone wants to enter the park or stay overnight, they must plan their trip the day before.

The parks are no longer hosting interpretative programs and have suspend equipment and boat rentals.

Garcia said people can still have the option to do a number of activities.

Biking, hiking, walking, trail riding, fishing, boating, geocaching, bird-watching, wildlife viewing, camping and stargazing are activities still available.

To ensure safety for everyone the park recommends visitors continue to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for social distancing.

The parks will continue normal hours at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until further notice.
