ABILENE, Texas — Nimari Burnett committed to Texas Tech University to become the highest recruit in program history. The Chicago native is No. 19 on the ESPN 100 big board.

Burnett is a physical player, listed at 6' 3", 190 lbs. with a 6-10 wingspan. He joins a stacked recruiting class with four-star prospects, Micah Peavy and Chibuzo Agbo.

He chose Texas Tech over Alabama, Oregon and Michigan, but also received offers from Arizona, UCLA, USC, Indiana, Arizona, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Cal, Louisville, Ohio State and others.

Following his visit to Lubbock on the weekend of Oct. 19, he felt drawn to the coaching staff and the culture at Texas Tech. Lubbock was his final of five official visits.

Burnett's commitment brings Texas Tech's 2020 class to the sixth best in the nation and best in the Big 12. Texas Tech has landed four Top-50 prospects in the last two years.

Coach Chris Beard's made it a priority when he became head coach at Texas Tech to get top recruits to commit and his plan is working.
