Wylie Junior High strikes out cancer for DeeDee Baker

Wylie Junior High joined together to support DeeDee Baker.

DeeDee Baker, a teacher at Wylie Junior High, was diagnosed with breast cancer. While Baker is starting treatments, Wylie Junior High School wanted to give back.

Wylie East and West made the volleyball match-up Thursday evening a giveback night to Baker and her family.

Adrienne Ruffin, a coach at Wylie West Junior High, said this was a great way to give back to Baker and her family. Ruffin said Wylie is like a family, and it feels great to be a part of a strong community such as this.

"I love how we get the opportunity to come together for DeeDee Baker," eighth-grader Wesley Ruff said.

Another eighth grade volleyball player, Ashton Hansen, thought it was "cool to see students wearing pink all day long," supporting Baker in her fight.

"Wylie is wonderful. Everyone is always there for each other all the time, in a time of need, in a time of rejoicing for things, Wylie is just a great place to be," Ruffin said.

All proceeds from fundraising and the game will go to Baker and her family.
