San Angelo State Park is assessing the damages from Monday’s storm

Park Superintendent believes the cost to fix all damages will be more than $30,000.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo State Park is starting to recover after Monday's storm destroyed many of the parks structures. .

Campers, cabins and the bird watching house have all been torn down. Roofs were torn off the top of cabins, and campers were completely flipped over.

San Angelo State Park Superintendent Jim Cisneros explains the rebuild will be slow process.

"Giving our limited resources financially and with personnel, but it would take probably upwards of a year to get us back to where we were before," Cisneros said.

The park has temporarily closed down certain parts to keep visitors safe, and to begin rebuilding a lot of the structures that have been damaged.

Cisneros has been able to address the cost of everything, and with many of the resources going to other projects the cost is going to be high.

"We're looking at replacing, probably three roofs so you figure at least ten to fifteen thousand dollars per roof," Cisneros said. "We've got at least 40 thousand we need to spend, probably more."

He has admired the outreach of community support, because many people have started to volunteer to help pick up debris and other trash.

Some of the community members have even donated money to help see their favorite parts of the park rebuilt.
