Abilene PD investigating Saturday evening pedestrian-fatality crash

The pedestrian's name was withheld pending next-of-kin notification Sunday.

ABILENE, Texas — UPDATE (3:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25): The Abilene Police Department has identified the pedestrian killed in a Saturday night vehicle collision as Larry Gale Hickey, 57, of Abilene.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Abilene Police Department's Patrol and Traffic divisions responded to a call at approximately 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 to South First and Morris streets for reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

According to an APD press release, the initial investigation showed a silver Mitsubishi Galant struck a white male pedestrian who was inside the eastbound lane.

The driver of the Mitsubishi Galant was identified as Clark Lee Hill Jr. of Abilene. The pedestrian's name is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Frank Cleveland.

It was unknown if alcohol was a factor in the collision, blood specimens were obtained from the driver and the pedestrian, according to the release.

Investigators will continue next of kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation by the Abilene Police Department's Traffic Division.
