Colorado City man killed in two-vehicle crash Friday morning

A 62-year-old man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Mitchell County. A 24-year-old Colorado City man was seriously injured in the crash.

MITCHELL COUNTY, Texas — A 62-year-old Colorado City man died in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning.

According to a preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Michael Wayne Scales, 62, of Colorado City, died at the scene of the crash.

The report states Scales was driving a 2019 Ford pickup truck traveling west on the south service road of Interstate 20, two miles west of Colorado City. Scales was approaching a yield sign and eastbound on-ramp to I-20. A 2003 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Robert Bruce Gonzales, 24, was traveling eastbound on the service road and attempted to enter the interstate, using the on-ramp when it was struck by vehicle, the report stated.

Gonzales was transported to Mitchell County Hospital with serious injuries. 

The crash remains under DPS investigation.
