BIG SPRING, Texas — UPDATE: (4:44 p.m. Feb. 10): Because of the wet weather, the first stage of the new bridge deck on US Hwy 87 has been postponed until Saturday, Feb. 15.
ORIGINAL STORY: The first stage of the new bridge deck on US 87 will be poured at the viaduct, A press release from the Texas Department of Transportation said the work will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, and should be completed by 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane and flaggers will help navigate traffic. Portable message boards and other signage announcing the bridge work and lane closure will be in place during the construction project, the release stated.
Because this will be an active work zone, motorists are advised to use caution and obey all traffic control devices in place for safety. Traffic fines double when workers are present.
