Motorcyclist dies from injuries received in Saturday night crash

A 48-year-old motorcycle driver died from injuries received in a Saturday crash in Abilene. Police say alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Police Department Traffic Division is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle rider.

The crash occurred at 11:06 p.m. Saturday, March 28, in the 3500 block of North First Street, according to a press release from the Abilene Police Department.

James Lee Park, 48, of Mississippi, the only rider was on a 2011 Harley Davidson Unlimited, traveling east on North First in the outside lane.

The investigation shows Park lost control, striking a curb located near the intersection of Westwood and North First, struck another curb, became airborne and landed in the middle of the roadway on North First.

Park was thrown from the motorcycle because of the impact. He was wearing a helmet at the time of impact, but it dislodged during the crash, according to the report.

He was transported to Hendrick Medical Center and treated for severe injuries. Park was pronounced dead Wednesday, April 1, and next of kin notification was made.

Police said alcohol may be a factor in the crash.
