San Angelo man killed in two-vehicle crash in Coke Co. Wednesday

A 52-year-old San Angelo man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision near Bronte.

COKE COUNTY, Texas — A San Angelo man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on US Hwy 277, four miles south of Bronte in Coke County.

According to a preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a tractor trailer, driven by Jamie Alejandro Gonzalez, 35, of San Angelo, was traveling southbound on US Hwy 277. Another tractor trailer, driven by Benito Garcia, 52, of San Angelo, was traveling northbound on the highway. 

A thunderstorm had passed through the area, leaving water on the roadway. The report states Gonzalez's vehicle hydroplaned, left its lane and collided head-on with Garcia's vehicle.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez was transported to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo with incapacitating injuries.

The crash was investigated by DPS Trooper John Broadway, San Angelo, Texas Highway Patrol.
