San Angelo PD: One fatality in multi-vehicle collision on North Chadbourne Street

A pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed struck at least two other vehicles at the intersection of North Chadbourne and East 19th streets Monday afternoon.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — An unidentified woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of East 19th and North Chadbourne streets Monday afternoon.

According to San Angelo Police Department Public Information Officer Tracy Piatt-Fox, who gave a statement at the scene, patrol officers saw a pickup truck traveling southbound on North Chadbourne Street at a high rate of speed.

When the officer was able to turn around safely and attempt a traffic stop, the officer went to the area of Chadbourne and 19th and came upon the crash.

"Right now, it appears as if there are three vehicles involved," Piatt-Fox said. "There is a fourth vehicle that could have been involved, we do believe that possibly debris from the collision struck that fourth vehicle, not that it's entirely involved."

Piatt-Fox said the pickup truck that was speeding struck an secondary vehicle facing southbound at the intersection that was stopped, waiting to turn eastbound onto 19th Street. The truck went left-of-center and struck the SUV and caused it to turn around.

The truck continued traveling and struck another vehicle that was northbound on North Chadbourne. It pushed that vehicle back some distance, Piatt-Fox said.

"The pickup truck itself ended up rolling a few times. It did land on its top," she said. "We do have one female driver that was pronounced deceased. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The male driver of the pickup was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment for what we believe are incapacitating injuries."

The driver of the third vehicle appeared to have no injuries at the time of the crash, she said.

The crash scene is being investigated by the SAPD and no identifying vehicle information or driver information was immediately available. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved, Piatt-Fox said.

Investigators will continue to work the scene, possibly, commencing once there is more light Tuesday. Police ask that drivers avoid the area for at least the next few hours as they continue to work the scene.
