SAN ANGELO, Texas — Two people died in an early Monday morning incident on the Houston Harte Expressway and Caddo Street. According to the San Angelo Police Department, the driver of one wrecked vehicle ran onto the expressway, where he was struck by a second vehicle.
The SAPD said officers were dispatched to a major crash at 1:29 a.m. Monday.
When they arrived, officers found a disabled SUV in the San Angelo Central High School parking lot, 655 Caddo St. The SUV had struck multiple large rocks in the front of the school, before coming to a stop.
A second wrecked car was found at 600 W. Houston Harte Expwy.
After further investigation, it was discovered that the driver of the SUV ran onto the Houston Harte and was struck by the car. The car then veered off the road and struck a large sign. The driver of the car was not wearing a seatbelt.
Both drivers died from their injuries at the scene and were pronounced dead by Judge Eddie Howard.
The driver of the SUV was identified as Raphael Salas, 45, of Del Rio. The identity of the second driver is being withheld at this time pending next-of-kin notification.
The SAPD is continuing the investigation.
