A weekend break from the cold

More sunshine and a rise in temperatures frees West Texas from the frigid past week

SAN ANGELO, Texas — After the powerful cold snap and winter weather we just experienced, I’m here to tell you that it (the weather) gets better. Despite Friday being 10 degrees warmer than Thursday, there was still a chill to the air throughout the day, especially in the morning. Luckily the sun was out to make it feel more comfortable. Tonight won’t be the same story as there is another hard freeze, with temperatures in the lower 20s and a few places forecasted to 19 degrees.

The weekend, however, is going to look great! Highs will be in the mid-50s on both Saturday and Sunday, Saturday will be nice and sunny, and on Sunday night lows even make it above freezing. Sunday will see more cloud cover as a low-pressure system, currently sitting in the Southwest US, makes it way over to Texas by early Monday morning.

This low-pressure system will bring some light rain on Monday morning, but rain totals aren’t expected to exceed an inch. Almost immediately afterwards, a cold front will pass by Monday evening, but from a totally different system.

There is powerful high-pressure system that will be traveling south from Canada, bringing more gusty winds (as with any front) but also clear skies and calm weather.

Temperatures next week will be a bit below average, getting as low as 49 degrees midweek but reaching the 60s again by next Friday.
