San Angelo PD cracks down on school zone speeding

The average fine for speeding through a school zone in Tom Green County is $250, according to the Municipal Court.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The school year has just begun in San Angelo and already, on the first day of school, the San Angelo Police Department handed out 35 citations and seven warnings in eleven school zones throughout the city. 

The fine for speeding through school zones are not cheap, either. In fact, the average fine for speeding through a school zone in Tom Green County is $250, according to the Municipal Court. Additionally, using your phone through a school zone could result in a fine of up to $200.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, in the year 2017, there were 811 vehicle crashes in Texas school zones, resulting in two deaths and 30 serious injuries. The causes of these crashes were preventable, too. They were: failure to control speed, driver inattention and failure to yield right of way.
