SCURRY COUNTY, Texas — A 24-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Scurry County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at around 1:20 p.m. Monday on Farm-to-Market Road 1609, about 1.5 miles north of Ira.

Seth Thomas Boynton, 24, of Ira, was driving a pickup truck south on Farm-to-Market Road 1609. DPS said Cameron Scott Johnson, 26, of Snyder, was driving a pickup truck, towing a utility trailer, and was traveling north on FM 1609.

Boynton was not driving in a single lane and drove into the northbound lane as Johnson approached him. Johnson tried to avoid the crash by steering left toward the southbound lane and away from Boynton.

DPS said Boynton also tried to take evasive action, steering back to the southbound lane and hit Johnson head-on.

Boynton's pickup truck caught fire after the crash and was engulfed in flames. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb.

Johnson and his passenger, Stephan Jerod Gunderson, 30, of Andrews, were taken to Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder for treatment of incapacitating injuries. They were both listed in stable condition at the time of release from DPS.
