Angelo State Spring graduation ceremonies set for Saturday

SAN ANGELO, Texas — More than 1,140 students are scheduled to walk the stage during Angelo State University's five spring commencement ceremonies Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14, at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St.

Graduates will be presented with 27 doctoral degrees, 410 master's degrees and 712 bachelor's degrees.

Friday, May 13 commencement ceremonies:

  • 5 p.m. - Graduates of the College of Education and of the College of Graduate Studies and Research in education fields
  • 7:30 p.m. - Graduates of the Archer College of Health and Human Services and of the College of Graduate Studies and Research in those academic fields

Saturday, May 14 commencement ceremonies:

  • 10 a.m. - Graduates of the College of Science and Engineering and of the College of Graduate Studies and Research in those academic fields
  • 1 p.m. - Graduates of the Norris-Vincent College of Business and of the College of Graduate Studies and Research in business fields
  • 4 p.m. - Graduates of the College of Arts and Humanities and of the College of Graduate Studies and Research in those academic fields

The doors to the Junell Center will open one hour prior to each ceremony. The ceremonies are free and open to the public and may also be viewed live at angelo.edu/commencement.

The ceremonies will highlight three days of graduation-related events at ASU. New this year is the inaugural "Raices y Suenos" Latinx Graduation Celebration and Stole Ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, in the ASU Auditorium inside the Mayer Administration Building, 2601 W. Avenue N. Every graduating student, regardless of ethnicity, race or degree program, is encouraged to participate and celebrate their achievements with family and friends in a way that also acknowledges culture and traditions.

Other graduation-related campus events include:

On Thursday, May 12, the Social Work Department will conduct the annual pinning ceremony for its graduates starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

On Thursday, May 12. the David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering will host a graduation celebration at 6 p.m. for its graduating seniors in the Mathematics-Computer Science Building Room 100, 2200 Dena Drive.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, the nursing department will conduct the annual pinning ceremony for its graduates in the Houston Harte University Center.

On Friday, May 13, ASU's Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will conduct its spring commissioning ceremony for graduating cadets at 9 a.m. in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave. The cadets will receive their appointments as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force.

Then at 11 a.m. Friday, the physical therapy department will conduct its annual awards banquet in the Houston Harte University Center. Various student awards including those for academic excellence, research excellence and clinical excellence, will be distributed, as well as faculty awards and the community volunteer award.
