Crockett Elementary's teachers' lounge gets makeover from Crayola, Walmart, Schoolgirl Style

The school unveiled its updated lounge April 24.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — San Angelo's Crockett Elementary School's teachers' lounge has a new look, thanks to Crayola, Walmart and Schoolgirl Style.

Crayola said the Crockett makeover is part of a new initiative aimed at giving teachers’ lounges across the country a creative refresh in recognition of the relentless dedication of educators.

"The teachers’ lounge makeovers acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional influence that teachers have on students and the community, as they make a profound difference in the lives of others," Crayola said.

Crockett was one of 12 schools selected nationwide to get the complete makeover for its teachers' lounge as part of Crayola Creativity Week’s Creative Teachers Sweepstakes, a free program that brings more than six million children together globally across six continents and 100 countries. Throughout the week, educators have access to fun, engaging and creative activities to do with their students, including hands-on, educational activity videos led by celebrities, downloadable handouts, daily prizes, a livestream virtual assembly to connect with other creative classrooms and more.

All content is aligned to education standards and has been translated into eight languages.

In addition to the makeover, Crayola gave the school with $1,000 worth of Crayola art supplies.

The founder of Schoolgirl Style, Melanie Ralbusky, is a former classroom teacher who knows the importance of teachers having a place in the school where they can connect and restore their creative mindsets. She created a series of design boards for the winning schools to choose from, that would be brought to life in their building.

Crockett representatives chose the design and Crayola provided the school with a $3,000 walmart.com virtual gift card to buy the necessary items for the makeover. Walmart community relations also provided a $1,000 gift card for the teachers to buy additional items for their lounge.

In honor of the upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week, Crayola and the San Angelo South Bryant Walmart volunteers helped with painting, setting up the new furniture and decorating the teachers’ lounges.

“Crayola Creativity Week supports Crayola’s mission to help parents and educators raise creatively alive children and reflects our deep commitment to nurturing children’s creativity to help them reach their full potential. Creativity is a life skill that improves student outcomes in the classroom and beyond,” Crayola Executive Vice President, Marketing,  Victoria Lozano, said. “Educators share our commitment to creativity as kids’ biggest creative champions, giving everything they have to their students. We are thrilled to help support them and help encourage more creativity in schools by giving educators an inspiring space just for them, to recharge, collaborate and restore their own creative energy.”

“We appreciate everything our teachers do for our students,” San Angelo Walmart 7281 Store Manager, Sherry Luce, said. “We know they use their own resources in many cases. It was wonderful to be able to give back to them.”
