San Angelo Elks give Goodfellow personnel a 'Home Away from Home' for Christmas

The Elks Lodge #1880 had a full house of Goodfellow Air Force Base active duty personnel on Christmas Day for its annual event aimed to serve those who serve.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — San Angelo's Elks Lodge #1880 was packed for lunch on Christmas Day as active duty military members from Goodfellow Air Force Base attended the lodge's "Home Away from Home" event.

Lodge member Emit Lopez said this is the fifth year the lodge has hosted the event, aimed at giving back to those who are serving our country.

"Today we have the opportunity to take care of the military personnel stationed at Goodfellow that don't get a chance to go home," Lopez said. "We bring them up here to the Lodge, we feed them, we have games and gifts for them. It's just part of our service, it what we do."

The guests were treated to lunch, games and gifts from the Elks as well as donations from the community. Military members were bused in on a trolley, driven by Elks. Those who were on duty Wednesday were provided a meal, delivered to them by volunteers.

Lodge members volunteered their time and culinary talents to make sure the event went well for all involved.
