Law enforcement spent seven hours yesterday attempting to capture a shooting suspect who closed himself inside of a house.

The 911 call came in at 4:05. Thirty-one year old Gabriel Hughes shot his sixty-four year old mother Cathleen Hughes and a sixty-four year old family friend, Theodore "Tip" Hargrove at the family's ranch on Sutton Road.

Around 4:30, "Tip"--a San Angelo Attorney--drove himself and Cathy in this white truck to meet police and the ambulance on Highwat 87 and March Road.

Both Hargrove and Cathleen are taken to Shannon Medical Center, Hughes remained barricaded inside of the guest house on the ranch. Sheriff Deputies approached the house to assess the scene.

Come 6:00, Deptuies asked for help and SAPD drove their command post trailer to the scene. A total of five agencies arrived to help with the apprenhension.

At 7:30, Tom Green County Sheriff, David Jones briefed the media on the incident. Attempts to contact the suspect had been made.

At 9:00, another media briefing by PIO Christina Lopez took place, where the victims age was released.

"No contact was made until 9:15, approximately 9:15," Sheriff Jones said.

At 11:10, tear gas was thrown into the house to initiate physical contact with Hughes.

After twenty minutes, Gabe Hughes was taken into custody. He was arrested at 11:30 at night.

"It was a cooperative operation amongst a lot of different law enforcement agencies," Jones said.

He said around sixty law enforcement personnel assisted them, "It all turned out great, everybody went home. Everybody was safe. So it was a big thing that they did for us."

"Tip" Hargrove has been released from Shannon, while Gabe's mom had a lengthy surgery yesterday and is still recovering, but Sheriff Jones says he expects her to live.
