Abilene PD revives officer trading cards to foster community engagement

The program which originated in the 1990s and early 2000s, has been brought back to encourage a dialogue between residents and officers.

ABILENE, Texas — In an effort to strengthen community relations and foster positive interactions between law enforcement officers and citizens, the Abilene Police Department reintroduced its once-popular officer trading cards. The initiative originated in the 1990s and early 2000s and aims to encourage dialogue between residents and officers.

The trading cards feature a photo of an officer on the front and background information on the back. They provide citizens with a unique icebreaker to approach an APD officer and talk to them.

“Anybody, just come up and ask and we’re more than happy to hand them out and hopefully it builds up that connection we want,” Abilene Police Lt. Davis said.

Abilene residents are encouraged to approach officers to ask for a trading card.
