An Abilene man is accused of killing a victim during an altercation over a woman they were both seeing.

According to the affidavit, Chastang and Haynes got into a fight while Haynes was collecting some of his belongings from the woman who lived in the apartment. Both men were allegedly in an on-and-off relationship with the woman, which the affidavit states, caused issues.

The woman told police Chastang left the apartment so Haynes could get his things, but was upset that Haynes was still there when he came back. The woman said she was laying in bed with Haynes when Chastang got back to the apartment.

She told police, when she got up to let him in, Haynes said he was going to shoot Chastang and "something to the effect of it was time for Haynes to leave". The document states within seconds, the woman heard two gunshots, then saw Haynes leave the bedroom saying Chastang had charged at him, but also said she did not her them fighting before the shots were fired.

The affidavit states the woman said Chastang was not armed when he went into the bedroom and she did not believe there was a time for a fight to have started.

Chastang "was in dire condition and collapsed twice before dying from his injuries."

Haynes' bond was set at $500,000.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it is received from Taylor County courts or Abilene Police.
