GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas — UPDATE (4:30 p.m. Oct. 19): Goodfellow Air Force Base updated the public at approximately 4:15 p.m. on its Facebook page, saying "The south gate is now reopened for inbound and outbound traffic. The north gate remains open for outbound traffic only. "

ORIGINAL STORY: The south gate at Goodfellow Air Force Base has been blocked off after a bomb-sniffing dog alerted to an 18-wheeler attempting to access the base.

Officer Barker from the San Angelo Police Department said he was dispatched to Goodfellow to assist with a "bomb threat" on base.

"They are treating this as a bomb threat," Barker said. "They have a 1000-foot cordon, which affects outside traffic, so we are assisting them for any traffic going east or west to the south gate."

According to Barker, the north gate is open.

"EOD from Dyess is en route, they should be here in about 30-45 minutes," Barker said.

The San Angelo Police Department issued a Nixle alert asking residents to avoid the area of Edgewood to Goodfellow's south gate because of police activity.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
