BROWN COUNTY, Texas — A Brown County Sheriff's Office deputy responding to a domestic disturbance Thursday evening shot a suspect who aimed a rifle at him, the BCSO says.

Around 6:01 p.m. Thursday, the BCSO was dispatched to a home on County Road 477 in northern Brown County for a domestic disturbance not in progress.

A deputy arrived on scene and began checking on the female victim, who was separated from the male suspect because the man was going to a guest house on the property.

The man exited the guest house and started manipulating the slide of a semi-automatic pistol while pointing it at the deputy.

The BCSO said the suspect ignored demands to put the gun down and speak with the deputy, who had sent the victim to her house for safety. The suspect then ran back into the guest house.

The deputy retreated to his patrol unit for cover, the BCSO said, and retrieved his rifle.

That's when the sheriff's office says the man came out of the guest house with a rifle, again ignoring demands to put the rifle down and talk to the deputy. The man then shouldered the rifle and aimed it at the deputy, who fired his patrol rifle, hitting the suspect, who went to the ground.

Life-saving measures were performed and the suspect was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood, then to a higher level of care facility.

According to the Brown County Sheriff's Office, the suspect, who has not been identified, is in custody on charges of attempted capital murder. The Texas Rangers were called to work the scene of the officer-involved shooting.

No further information is currently available about the incident.
