MASON COUNTY, Texas — A cold case from West Texas is being featured in the latest episode of "Cold Case Investigations of the Texas Rangers" and law enforcement is hoping the public can help solve the unsolved homicide of James "Jimmy" Schuessler.
According to Texas Rangers, Schuessler was found dead at his ranch Oct. 14, 2021. It's believed the man met with someone at the ranch and some sort of fight happened near his pickup truck, causing a laceration to Schuessler's head.
Schuessler is believed to have gone inside his home through a sliding glass door, possibly the restroom to clean up, then laid down on the couch, essentially bled out and died. Evidence from the scene includes DNA, fingerprints and bloodstain patterns.
"Somebody saw something," Mason County Sheriff Joe Lancaster said. "Whether it was small, little, no matter what little thing they might have run into, but yes, I believe there's somebody out there that has information in reference to this case."
At the time of his death, Schuessler was married with two children. They want to know who killed their father. His brother, Buddy, said he hopes it's not someone they know and wishes their parents had the closure of knowing who killed Jimmy before they died.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-252-TIPS (84477). There is a $3,000 cash reward if the information leads to the arrest of the person(s) who killed Schuessler. All tips are anonymous. Tipsters will be provided a tip number instead of using a name.
